SXSW Application Deadline
Bands from across the world are currently applying for the 2009 South by SouthWest (SXSW) music, film and new media festival, considered to be the biggest music industry networking and showcasing event in the world. The deadline for international applications is 24 October 2008.

Scotland and Venice 2009
Dundee Contemporary Arts has been invited to curate Scotland and Venice 2009, a presentation of new work from Scotland for the 53rd International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale.

New Director joins craftscotland
craftscotland, the promotion agency for Scotland’s contemporary crafts today announced the appointment of a new Director. Emma Walker joins craftscotland from Arts About Manchester, where she was Audience Development Manager.

Creative Programmer appointed to ensure Olympic legacy for Scotland
The Scottish Arts Council has announced the appointment of Leonie Bell as Creative Programmer for Scotland for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. Leonie will curate a programme of high quality, accessible and innovative activity as part of Scotland’s contribution to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme.

Expo funding for ‘Made in Scotland’ Fringe Showcase
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is to receive an initial £200,000 from the Scottish Government’s Expo Fund for a new initiative showcasing Scottish-based performing arts talent. 20% of the Expo Fund continues to be ring fenced for this initiative in future years.

David Malouf announced as second Muriel Spark International Fellow
The Scottish Arts Council is delighted to announce that David Malouf, the internationally renowned Australian novelist, short story writer and poet, has accepted the Scottish Arts Council’s invitation to visit Scotland this Autumn as the second Muriel Spark International Fellow.
