Scottish Arts Council book of the Year Award 2003: Announcement of shortleet
Six writers from across Scotland will be celebrating today as the shortleet for the Scottish Arts Council Book Awards is announced.
The final awards ceremony and announcement of the winner will be held in the Biosphere at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh on Thursday 5 June 2003 at 12 noon.

Whether it be Scottish traditional music, jazz and improvised music, chamber music, traditional roots music, Scottish Indie, rock or pop we want to hear from you. |

Art reaches every corner of Scotland
The Scottish Arts Council announced today a series of Lottery grants which will see the arts reach every corner of Scotland. The grants range from £60,000 to £100,000 and incorporate a variety of artforms including music, dance and visual arts. |

Arts boost local communities
The Scottish Arts Council today announced a series of grants ranging from £65,000 to £100,000 that will directly impact on local communities. The projects, which are ambitious in nature, range from art activities for hospice patients through to the appointment of a Literature Development Officer in Dumfries. |

Funds for Scottish crafts: chromatic whistles to printed textiles
The Scottish Arts Council has allocated grants totalling £77,000 to benefit a number of Scotland’s leading craftspeople. The grants range from £4,500 up to £11,000 and cover projects by designers of printed textiles and jewellery artists through to makers of musical instruments. |

Artists recruited to enliven new children's hospital
Renowned artists from Scotland and abroad have been recruited to work with Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects in the creation of the new Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Big names involved with the project include Matthew Hilton, Furniture Designer at Habitat; Jim Buckley, recent recipient of a Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Award 2003 and Lucy Richards, recent winner of the Scottish Design Awards Best Publication. |

Scottish crafts website on track for development
A Crafts website for Scotland will be launched next year, thanks to funding from the Scottish Arts Council. The new national Crafts website will let the public know where to view and buy crafts and take craft classes. It will also offer craftspeople information on suppliers, outlets, and sales and training opportunities. |

Kids get their way on World Book Day
The face of home libraries is set to change as children spruce up their books with new bookplates designed by some of Scotland's top illustrative talent. The original artwork for the bookplates was funded by the Scottish Arts Council and has been made available on the internet for children to download and print. |

Music, lights, camera, action!
Edinburgh's Hub will play host to the Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Awards 2003 tonight (Wednesday) as Scotland's artistic vision is celebrated. Projects encompassing music, light, liberty and dance, as well as a unique garden, will be unveiled as the 10 recipients are announced. |
