Top Musicians Begin Marathon Tour Across Scotland

Own Art celebrates successful first year in Scotland
An evaluation of the Scottish Arts Council’s interest free loan scheme Own Art has revealed that Scotland’s contemporary arts market is thriving. Annual sales of contemporary arts and crafts at Own Art member galleries across Scotland totalled almost £5m in 05/06, with a significant number of sales generated through the Own Art scheme.

Commissions announced for the 2007 Peter Darrell Choreographic Award
The Peter Darrell Trust is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2007 Peter Darrell Choreographic Award which provides a unique opportunity for emerging choreographers to work with Scotland’s leading dance companies – Scottish Ballet and Scottish Dance Theatre (sdt) – commissioning them to create, produce and present a new work.

The Briggait Reborn – new arts complex to revitalise forgotten corner of Glasgow City Centre
The Briggait, a 19th Century former fishmarket in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, is set to be transformed into an exciting new resource for visual artists in Scotland following the approval of a £1.7 million award from the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Fund.

Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year 2006 announced
The People’s Act of Love by James Meek is the winner of this year’s Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Award. The much-acclaimed novel set in the cinematic snowdrifts of Siberia during the Russian revolution has won the £10,000 award – the biggest award specifically for a Scottish writer. The award will be presented at a ceremony today (Saturday 19 August) at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Scottish Arts Council call for applications for artists’ residencies across Scotland
The Scottish Arts Council is calling for applications from organisations across Scotland for its artist residency programme Partners, a lottery-funded initiative which provides communities with little or no experience of the arts with the opportunity to engage with professional, practising artists.
