Esther Salamon is a consultant, researcher, trainer and facilitator with considerable experience in creating, developing and managing arts projects across voluntary, public and private sectors. Areas of expertise – based on an in-depth understanding of collaborative, multi-disciplinary arts practices – include interim management, board/governance development, project and organisational development, management, fundraising, strategic planning and review. She has undertaken research, evaluations, feasibility studies and consultancies for universities, local authorities, artist-led organisations, cultural organisations, and national and regional arts funding bodies, and is an experienced trainer, mentor and facilitator.
She has provided advice, through coaching and line management support, and has undertaken development needs analyses for several artist-led organisations as a preface to activating 18-month development support plans including Monster Theatre Productions, Red Nile Projects and Lime Street Studios. In collaboration with others, she developed business/development plans for Cumbria Arts Partnership and Art Space Portsmouth and has developed monitoring and evaluation frameworks. Most recently, she was Acting Director of Durham City Arts.
For over fifteen years, and prior to going freelance, she was Co-Director of Newcastle-based charity Helix Arts where she created and managed projects that placed practising artists from across disciplines into health, community and criminal justice settings. She also took primary responsibility for internal operations including human resources and finance and established key partnerships with probation, prison and youth offender institutions and health trusts.
Due to her extensive knowledge of the arts, community development, informal education, and her fundraising, communication and analytical skills, she has been an advisor to several national grant-making trusts and foundations and has acted as a mentor to several practising artists, artist-run organisations and cultural bodies. She currently chairs the Board of a-n The Artists Information Company and is the Founding Chair of Waygood Gallery and Studios.

Maureen Jordan has worked in the arts and cultural sector for 25 years in Northern Ireland, England and internationally. During that time she has worked directly with individual artists, arts organisations, local authorities and within university departments, development agencies and most recently Arts Council, England.
Her role as Director, Liverpool, with the Arts Council involved her in the management of the Arts Council’s investment and involvement in Liverpool, European Capital of Culture with a particular focus on the legacy of 2008. This was the first location-specific role at Director level the Arts Council had created reflecting the importance placed upon maximising the impact in the region and the country of the biggest cultural opportunity this side of the Olympics. She was also part of the Vision 2012 project group tasked with developing the relationship with the Legacy Trust and setting up ‘Artists Taking the Lead’ the Arts Council’s major Olympics programme.
Maureen also has extensive experience of touring theatre beginning with Charabanc Theatre Company in Belfast in 1984 at a dynamic period of touring throughout Ireland, Europe, the US and former Soviet Union. Working with IOU in Halifax extended that experience into site-specific work created by visual artists working in the medium of theatre.
International work includes mentoring design graduates through ‘Eurocraft’ a professional development programme with designer-makers both in Denmark and Ireland. Coordination of an ‘Asia Urbs’ funded project with partners in Limerick, Hackney and Hai Duong in North Vietnam involved managing complex cultural partnerships and developed her knowledge of traditional artisan and contemporary crafts in both Vietnam and Ireland.
Maureen is now developing her role as freelance arts manager and advisor.
