Developing Scots in Scotland

We recognise and welcome the public interest in Scots and allocate funding accordingly. The Scottish Arts Council Literature Strategy states that it will ‘recognise and encourage the distinctive languages of Scotland in creative writing and storytelling’.

We are developing and supporting Scots by:

  • Investing in Scotland’s national storytelling network and supporting an enhanced national programme of bursaries, projects, festivals and events.
  • Establishing a comprehensive and targeted fund to promote translation and expand international fellowships and exchanges.
  • Promoting Scotland’s languages as cultural expressions and as a means of accessing Scotland’s culture.
  • Encouraging continued co-ordination and development of Scots language organisations.
