Hear Glasgow, Glasgow's Youth Music Forum, was awarded funding from the Scottish Arts Council Youth Music Initiative.

Hear Glasgow was set up in July to find out about music opportunities in Glasgow for young people aged between 0 - 25. The Forum is aimed at all under 25's, plus youth music providers including teachers, development workers, freelancers, cultural co-ordinators and professional music organisations. |

With Glasgow's new status as UNESCO City of Music, Clare Harris, Forum Co-ordinator, remarks "this is a challenging and exciting project in a strong city for music."
The Forum, comprising of around 40 people, a good mix of young people and specialists within the music sector, has now met twice to discuss and share ideas. The next stage in the project is to develop area sub forums that will link up and work closely with the main group.
Hear Glasgow was launched on 30 October 2008 at The Arches, Glasgow, as part of the Inspiration Festival of the Arts for children and young people. The event ran from 12 noon until 8pm and was a resounding success.

The event consisted of a marketplace of stands, workshops and an evening performance. Approximately 20 exhibitors from all areas of music, from club promoters to early year's music were on hand to show what they do. |
Seven short workshops in all areas of music took place throughout the day, from computer-based music production to African drumming.The evening performance provided an excellent opportunity to hear a selection of the best in youth music from across Glasgow covering a wide range of genres and musical styles.

The Scottish Youth Pipe Band kicked off the performances, followed by a hip-hop group, Children of God MC's. Andrew Norquay played an acoustic set, followed by Tonic Tuesday, who recently recorded as part of the Glasgow Urban Collective and Young States closed the day's event on an impressive note. |

The forum intend to hold an annual event, similar to the launch event, that will enable young musicians to showcase their talent and hard work. May Hear Glasgow continue to go from strength to strength!
