Arts and Creativity in Education

The 21st century demands new ways of thinking about the arts, culture and creativity. This new thinking, whether in formal or informal learning, must help the people of Scotland become active and reflective participants in society and in their own learning. The Scottish Arts Council works in partnership nationally and locally to develop initiatives enhancing learning in and through the arts. These programmes build on current educational and public policy in Scotland.

Creativity, imagination and the arts are the core of a dynamic, diverse and inclusive cultural Scotland.

A key priority in school education is achieving the potential of every child - encouraging creativity and ambition. Schools have a central role in tapping into young peoples creativity and sparking their imagination. The Scottish Arts Council encourages a creative approach to the school curriculum and supports initiatives which involve artists working with teachers.

Creativity and the arts are for people of all ages playing a vital role in lifelong learning. They have the potential to be life-changing, inspirational and engaging, belonging to us all.
