Focus: Visible Fictions
| Visible Fictions Theatre Company was launched in 1991, and swiftly became a hit with an adaptation of Anne Fine’s story Bill’s New Frock. That production launched the company onto a global platform when a North American agent spotted them and invited them to take part in an international children's festival. |

The quality of work produced by Visible Fictions was confirmed when in 2000 The Red Balloon became the first production by a Scottish theatre company ever to be invited to Broadway. Visible Fictions’ touring has extended through Britain and to Ireland, Denmark, Canada and the USA. It has visited schools, theatres and international festivals with new plays, established classic texts and innovative adaptations.
The company has collaborated with The Seattle Children’s Theatre and The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and is currently co-producing with Minneapolis Children’s Theatre. In the UK, it has collaborated with BBC Panorama and co-produced with BBC Scotland for BBC Radio 4.
And now, a story about passion and fashion and hearts and soles…in May 2006, Visible Fictions will return to the Children’s International Theatre Festival (CITF) with Shopping for Shoes.
Visible Fictions believes in working with only the finest talent to produce innovative and memorable work for young people which inspire, challenge and excite.

'Because it's a young people's company we have to think about what's going to be really relevant for them.' This model seems to work, as Visible Fictions have built a local, national and international reputation for excellence in engaging and powerful theatre. |
They tell good stories to stimulate imaginations, giving people space within which they can explore, wonder and find their own meaning. These stories integrate theatre with live and recorded film, sound, movement and puppetry.
They believe in the voice of young people and engage in a creative dialogue with our audiences. They develop programmes where young people work with them as co-artists, in an environment which nurtures creativity and learning. In turn, this work inspires and informs Visible Fictions' professional productions so they resonate with new and diverse young voices.
Past shows
Visible Fictions initially appeared at the Children’s International Theatre Festival with Bill's New Frock in 2002, the production that The Herald described as '...fast, funny and decidedly funky... It's an outstanding wee show' . In 2004, Visible Fictions featured again at the festival, with Emily’s House. Emily’s House was created through Visible Fictions' New Writing Project, a unique process where young people help create and inspire new plays.
