About Bodysurf Scotland & the Dance House
Bodysurf Scotland promotes and produces dance, movement and related arts events. Based in the Universal Hall Arts Centre, the Findhorn Foundation Community in North East Scotland, their programme covers a range of activities including training for professional artists, performances and workshops. |
Dance House is Glasgow's Dance Agency and is one of a network of dance agencies in Scotland supported by the Scottish Arts Council. Formed ten years ago to fill a gap in dance provision, Dance House now offers over 50 public classes each week; the professional side of the organisation aims to develop the skills of dance artists and the Professional Development programme helps those working within the Dance secor to network, train and develop within the arts, in particular providing free rehearsal space thanks to a subsidy from the Scottish Arts Council.
Karl Jay-Lewin
Karl Jay-Lewin was born in 1963 and started dancing aged 27 after a background of carpentry and social/political activism. In 1995 he gained a BA (Hons) degree in Dance and Independent Learning from Middlesex University, from which time he has been working as a professional Choreographer, Dancer and Freelance Dance Teacher in the UK and Internationally. | |
Karl is the founding Director of Bodysurf Scotland; his artistic aim is to use the inherent emotional quality of movement to create non-literal physical narratives. His work is often optimistic, evoking a sense of simplicity and humanness. He is committed to the development of collaborative relationships with artists of other media.
