The Winter Room is a poetic interpretation, through dance, music and visual images, of a Northern winter, of solitude and of our desire and need to keep warm.
A woman and a dark companion inhabit an imagined timeless place where people and winter woods gather around the same hearth.
At the heart of this piece is the eternal cycle of creation, destruction and renewal. |
Formed in 1999 by artistic director Claire Pençak, the company’s work is forged out of collaborations with a wide range of creative artists. The company has created six dance performances to date that have toured in Scotland and England. These have ranged in scale from a solo dance recital to ensemble works and include performances created especially for children.

The creative vision of Tabula Rasa Dance Company comes from the desire to make dance performances that transcend stylistic boundaries – performances that are imaginative, inspiring and highly visual. We begin each project with ‘tabula rasa’ – literally a clean slate - to seek fresh creative solutions.
Future creative projects include ‘The Crossing’, a site specific performance that takes peat as an image of memory – the memory of the earth and of the body.
