The programme consists of two brand new dance works, with original music, using contemporary, Street, Lockin', Poppin' and Breakin' styles. The new pieces include a first commission for director/choreographer Eddie Kay and original music from Edinburgh hip hop DJ and promoter Nasty P.
Crash Test Humans explores how we test our desire to survive or die: because we all die sooner or later, we may as well enjoy ourselves while we can! The dynamic and inspiring Axis off Balance by Freshmess' Artistic Director Allan Irvine takes a look at a day in the lives of some very different people and how they overcome those differences by working together to break down barriers, overcoming obstacles and always looking for the positive in a bad situation.
Freshmess' trademark style is a crossover between contemporary and hip hop dance that encourages new dancers and new audiences. Since their self-titled duet in 1996, Freshmess have created twelve new dance works touring all areas of Scotland as well as presenting their work as part of British Dance Edition and New York City's Tartan Week. The company has an extensive history of education work with young people led by Allan Irvine who is also the Youth Dance Worker at Dance Base.
