DanceLive!

Citymoves are proud to present DanceLive! a unique short season of dance performances in Aberdeen.

With works ranging from the intense and transformative theatre of Colette Sadler’s 'DdumY' to the sly wild madness of Frank McConnell’s 'Far Horizons' with ace and very, very live musicians, Frazer Fifield, Graeme Stephen, David Robertson and Guy Nicholson.

Launching DanceLive! 5 dancers/5 composers brings together the diverse talents of Dundee-based Michael Popper (Unbounded), Borders-based Jenna Agate, Minnesota-based Ruth Barnes (Leave the thorn) and Edinburgh-based Janis Claxton (Blue) with music live by Judith Weir, Christopher Benstead, Pippa Murphy, George Frederick Handel and J S Bach.

Siobhan Davies’ will make the first showing in Scotland of the latest cool and immaculate studio work In Plain Clothes.  Ex-Edinburgh based choreographer and bombshell of a performer Rosie Kay makes a very rare Aberdeen appearance in Asylum and other stories… a series of tough, wry and vertuoso works with Andreas Decker.

DanceLive! Closes with performance by Glasgow-based Anna Krzytek and Tom Murray creating a cutting edge dance theatre with Test where images threaten to etch themselves onto the viewer.

DanceLive! is made possible through creative and financial partnerships between Citymoves, the Lemon Tree, His Majesty’s Theatre and Peacock Visual Arts and DanceBase (Edinburgh). Citymoves receives funding from the Scottish Arts Ccouncil, the Big Lottery Fund, Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council as the Dance Agency of the north east of Scotland.

DanceLive! ran from 12 - 20 October 2006.

Fast and Dirty 2006

Alongside DanceLive! Citymoves also hosted a unique workshop initiative fast+Dirty. For two weeks, selected teams of dancers, composers, artists, actors, choreographers, writers, performers and musicians explored new ideas and collaborations through a series of ‘theatre experiments’ in various locations around Aberdeen City centre.

Creative teams set about dealing with a new creative task and the end of the day the results of this task were shown to the rest of group. Ian Spink, Artistic Director of Citymoves facilitated the workshop which aimed to promote cross artform collaboration, problem solving and the exploration of new approaches to making choreography, theatre and performance.
