Dance in the City
Dance fever hits Glasgow as dedicated dance website goes live
On Monday 18 September, 2006, Glasgow’s first ever dance website danceinthecity.com, went live. Created in direct response to the Glasgow’s burgeoning dance scene and its associated demand for easily accessible, up to the minute information, this dedicated site will provide all those wishing to watch, learn and teach dance, with a one stop reference point for all things dance taking place in and around the city.

Dance in Scotland is, overall, enjoying a period of change and growth. Both companies and dancers are being nominated for, as well as winning major awards, more people are getting involved in dance – at all levels – than ever before, and audiences for dance are on the increase.
Dance is also becoming a more viable career option. Advanced training opportunities are being established, there are new facilities in which to create and participate in dance and there is a growing network of theatres and other spaces presenting dance.

As a centre of dance activity, Glasgow’s 'Dance In the City' website will feature performance diaries for those keen to see dance as well as instant access to workshops and classes event diaries for those seeking to learn dance. The site will also provide a valuable resource for choreographers, dance programmers and marketers working within the dance community by featuring the latest news, views and intelligence data. |
danceinthecity.com has been created and produced by Glasgow’s pioneering audience development agency, Glasgow Grows Audiences (GGA), with support from Scottish Arts Council.
Glasgow Grows Audiences (GGA)
Glasgow Grows Audiences GGA is Glasgow’s specialist arts marketing and audience development agency. Founded in 2004 from over 30 arts groups and organisations, GGA exists to work in partnership with the City’s arts community to maximise the marketing effectiveness of arts groups with the ultimate collective goal of growing Glasgow’s audience numbers.
Arts organisations of all sizes benefit from partnerships with GGA through its focus providing arts organisations with valuable market intelligence and research, audience development initiatives, collaborative marketing campaigns and support including industry-tailored training, networking events and continuous professional development.
GGA’s role is to help encourage more people than ever before to take part in the arts and in this case, dance in particular. GGA believes that only by being more closely connected to audiences, by communicating with people and by helping to provide them with services and resources will they succeed in their efforts to build and sustain an interest in and enjoyment of the arts and in this case, dance in Glasgow. | |
