Crafts Artist - Elin Isaksson
|
Elin Isaksson received a Crafts Professional Development award from the Scottish Arts Council to participate in Origin. In her own words she describes how her career has since developed. |
"I am originally from Sweden. During my studies at Orrefors Glass School, Sweden 1998-2000, I discovered my passion for blown glass making. During those years I also undertook several placements in hot glass studios in Sweden and France.

 |
I came to Edinburgh College of Art in 2001 following a year spent assisting 3 glass blowers in Gothenburg. I completed both my BA (Hons) and my Masters in Glass & Architectural Glass Design at ECA. Further courses included Casting with Rudi Gritch in Italy and Master Glassblowing courses under Simon Moore and Dante Marioni at Northlands Creative Glass Center. |
I was also Artist in Residence at Edinburgh College of Art, teaching undergraduates on a part time basis between 2006-2008.
|
I started in 2006 when I won bespoke architectural commissions for domestic and public interiors, producing work which brings architectural glass together with blown sculpture and lighting.
Previous commissions include annual trophies for Oil & Gas UK and The Chancellor’s Award for Edinburgh University, exhibits for the National Museum of Scotland and architectural panels for private interiors etc. |

My inspiration is taken from the play of light, texture and movement in nature. Forms bend and twist organically. The objects do not necessarily represent a descriptive picture of nature, but an elastic, tactile abstraction it represents. |
At present I am launching my new work, which combines traditional skills with contemporary aesthetics producing bespoke chandeliers and innovative glass pendants. This project is supported by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) and the Scottish Arts Council. My new work can be seen at 100% Design and Origin this year.
